ABOUT: Scene Study digs deeper. The purpose of this class is for the serious young actor to concentrate on acting: listening, reacting, trust, relationships and feelings. Any student applying for this class must be highly motivated and very interested in becoming a better actor through technical group, partner and solo acting exercises, journal writing and homework, and working closely with a scene partner.
*All students will play young people, but these scenes may have heavy topics such as loss of a loved one/death, divorce, bullying, identity, mental health issues, domestic/substance abuse, or relationships/crushes. Some of these scenes may also include profanity. Some of our past scenes come from these plays: Antigone, Brighton Beach Memoirs, Bridge to Terabithia, The Diary of Anne Frank, The Children’s Hour, Sense and Sensibility, Romeo and Juliet, The Glass Menagerie, She Kills Monsters, Our Town, Ordinary People, Peter and the Starcatcher. Caroline will choose scenes based on what she believes your child can handle - regarding topic and difficulty. While she may be able to make an adjustment for a student she will not water down other scenes your child may be exposed to. We work closely to ensure safety with partners and the group as a whole focusing on respect and boundaries while still telling the story the best we can. If this does not seem comfortable to you or your child please do not register.
